A fourth grader who uses a wheelchair will soon get to play on the playground with her friends. Her story convinced a panel of judges to award the Mankato Downtown Kiwanis Club $25,000 in inclusive playground equipment as part of the Legacy of Play® Contest.

About 80 school principals from around the country gathered to install a playground at Princeton Elementary School in Suitland, Md., part of the Prince George's County Public Schools. The playground build is part of the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP)'s Community Service Day.

Children and families in Poplar Bluff, Mo., with special needs will benefit from $25,000 in playground equipment won during the international A Legacy of Play® Contest, sponsored by Landscape Structures Inc. and Kiwanis International. The Poplar Bluff Kiwanis Club submitted the winning essay describing why their community needs a new playground.
